How to Fix MCP Connection Problems

Having Trouble Connecting? #

If your AI tool is not connecting to WebOps or cannot access your website, the issue may be related to authorization, a new website, or the availability of WebOps tools.

The steps below cover the most common connection problems.

I Cannot Complete the WebOps Sign-In #

When you connect your AI tool, WebOps opens an authentication flow where you need to sign in and approve the connection.

Make sure you are signing in with the WebOps account you want to connect.

If the sign-in or approval process does not complete, try starting the connection again from your AI tool’s connector or MCP settings.

If the problem continues, contact WebOps support.

My Authorization Has Expired #

Your AI tool connection may require you to sign in again if the authorization expires.

When this happens:

  1. Open your AI tool’s connector or MCP settings.
  2. Find the WebOps connection.
  3. Start the sign-in or reconnect process.
  4. Sign in to your WebOps account and approve the connection.

After authorization is completed, return to your AI tool and try the request again.

I Created a New Website but My AI Tool Cannot See It #

A single WebOps connection can provide access to the websites available on your WebOps account.

However, a new website may not appear in an AI tool session that was already open when the website was created.

Reconnect your AI tool so the new website’s tools can become available in the existing session.

If you are using Claude Code, run:

/mcp

Then select the webops connection and complete the sign-in process when prompted.

I See “Unknown Tool” #

You may see an “Unknown tool” message when your AI tool tries to use a tool that was recently added to WebOps. There are two reasons for this, and they have different fixes.

First, a session that was already open does not list new tools until you reconnect your AI tool. Second, a website that has not received the update yet cannot run a new tool. Each website updates automatically within 12–24 hours.

So reconnect your AI tool first. If you still see the message, wait for the website to update and try again later.

If you need the update sooner, contact WebOps support.

My AI Tool Cannot Perform a Request #

Not every website action can be done through the WebOps MCP connection.

For example, the AI tool cannot:

  • Write arbitrary PHP or JavaScript code.
  • Change the layout of the header or footer.
  • Edit form fields.
  • Manage WooCommerce product variations.

It can work with your website content, design, translations, products, SEO, checks, media and settings.

If you are unsure whether something can be done, describe what you want in your AI tool and see what it answers.

For more information, see What an AI Tool Can Do with Your Website.

The Connection Works in One AI Tool but Not Another #

Each AI tool you connect has its own connection to your WebOps account.

Because the connections are separate, a problem in one AI tool does not necessarily mean there is a problem with your WebOps account.

Check the connection instructions for the specific AI tool or environment you are using. The exact location of MCP or connector settings can differ between tools.

For setup instructions, see How to Connect an AI Tool to Your WebOps Account.

I Cannot Tell Whether My Connection Is Active #

WebOps does not currently detect the connection status of your AI tool.

If you are unsure whether the connection is working, ask your AI tool for something simple, such as:

  • “Show me my websites.”
  • “Check my Home page.”
  • “Show me the available information about my website.”

If the request cannot access WebOps tools, reconnect the AI tool and try again.

I Want to Disconnect or Revoke the Connection #

WebOps does not currently provide a way to detect, revoke, or disconnect an AI tool connection from the WebOps App Builder.

If you need to manage or remove a connection, use the connection settings provided by the AI tool you connected to WebOps.

Still Having Problems? #

If you have completed the steps above and the connection still does not work, contact WebOps support and include:

  • The AI tool or environment you are using.
  • The action you were trying to perform.
  • Any error message shown by the AI tool.
  • Whether the connection was previously working.

This information can help the WebOps team identify the issue and provide the appropriate next steps.
